COVID-19 Graduation Ceremonies Texas

Runaway Bay, Texas – May 22, 2020 – RB Golf Club & Resort hosted a golf cart parade to celebrate local graduating seniors. Runaway Bay’s fifteen seniors decorated (sanitized) golf carts for the occasion. The local chief of police escorted the seniors on their parade route with the fire department bringing up the rear.

Seniors decorated their carts with streamers, balloons, American flags, and posters. Some students even wore their caps and gowns as they drove through the neighborhood. Runaway Bay mayor Herman “Berry” White addressed the seniors with an inspirational speech and called students up one and a time to give them each a graduation gift.

Even though it wasn’t a traditional graduation ceremony, students were excited to have some sort of event to celebrate their graduation together. “There was a lot of uncertainty up until about last week about whether we were gonna have an in-person graduation ceremony,” 2020 Runaway Bay senior Haley Barton told RB Golf Club & Resort Staff about the graduation parade. “I’m just happy that we get to graduate in person.”
