CORP Theatre to Present Much Ado About Nothing February 13-22, 2020
Women landed several lead male roles in the Shakespeare comedy. 

GARLAND, Texas – January 29, 2020 – Company of Rowlett Performers (CORP Theatre) will present William Shakespeare’s beloved comedy Much Ado About Nothing at Plaza Theatre (521 W State St, Garland, Texas) February 13-22, 2020 at 8:00 pm. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at the Box Office or online at corptheatre.org. Several women have been cast as male leads.

“Shakespeare has stood the test of time because it’s undeniable amazing work but it skews heavily male,” states director Donna Covington, “We want to give more women the opportunity to do Shakespeare, so we cast several amazing actresses in male roles.”

Claudio falls in love with Hero and their marriage is agreed upon. Beatrice and Benedick despise love and engage in comic banter. The others plot to make them fall in love with each other, by a trick in which Benedick will overhear his friends talking of Beatrice’s supposed secret love for him, and vice versa.

Valentine's Day Plans in Dallas

FRISCO, Texas – January 17, 2020 – Theatre Frisco will present the popular musical comedy I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (2018 Version) February 14 – March 1, 2020, opening on Valentine’s Day. The show is the second longest running Off-Broadway musical and takes a comical, although sometimes very adult, look at relationships from first date through the love life of the elderly. Theatre Frisco is excited to be the first theater in the area to present the newly revised version of the show.

Four actors make up the cast and each cast member takes on numerous characters in this fast-paced romp. The cast is made up of DFW theater veterans Robin Clayton, Stephanie Felton, Joshua Hawkins and John Wenzel. Director Neale Whitmore says, “It’s such a pleasure working with this group, their voices are amazing. But with a script as funny as this one, there is a lot of laughter and silliness going on during rehearsals.”

Show times are Friday and Saturday night at 8:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and veterans, and $15 for active duty military, teachers, and students. DALLAS, Texas – January 13, 2020 – Lyric Stage will celebrate Black History Month with ABYSSINIA February 14-16, 2020 as part of its Wonder Woman SeasonLyric Stage originally produced ABYSSINIA in its ninth season, and is excited to share this powerful and moving show with Dallas audiences in its twenty-seventh season. Based on the novel Marked by Fire by Joyce Carol Thomas, this musical was adapted and written by Ted Kociolek (Music/Book) and James Racheff (Lyrics/Book). Texas Christian University’s (TCU) own Jaden Dominique stars as Abyssinia.

Set in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the turn of the 20th century, Abyssinia ‘Abby’ Jackson was born during a tornado and blessed with the gift of song and a voice that thrills and delights the entire community. Like Job, Abby is fated to undergo a series of trials, and consequently, her faith in both man and God is destroyed, so she vows to never sing again. Abyssinia’s withdrawal affects the devastated community like a long drought, but when Mother Vera takes the girl under her wing to teach her the ways of a healer, Abby begins to heal herself, her voice, and her community as she learns to relieve pain in others.

Renowned actor, director, teacher, and writer Akin Babatundé will serve as the production’s Director, and Sheilah Vaughn Walker, well-known for her artful work on Broadway and across the country as a conductor, music director, vocal coach, and pianist, will serve as the production’s Music Director.

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – October 17, 2019 – The Firehouse Theatre will present the musical Side Show October 24-November 10, 2019. Based on the true story of Siamese twins Violet and Daisy Hilton, who became stars during the Depression, the PG-13 show is a moving portrait of two women joined at the hip whose extraordinary bondage brings them fame but denies them love. Told almost entirely in song, the show follows their progression from England to America, around the vaudeville circuit and to Hollywood on the eve of their appearance in the 1932 movie, “Freaks.”

Theatre-goers are invited to dress up in costume for the Halloween night show on Thursday, October 31st. Those wearing costumes will receive a complimentary candy bar at the concession stand.

PLANO, Texas – September 27, 2019 – NTPA Repertory Theatre will present The Addams Family October 25 – November 2, 2019. In the musical The Addams Family, Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a nice young man from a respectable family. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough for the Addams, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before: keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.

Rockwall Summer Musicals Announces Wizard of Oz Summer Camp
The day camp teaches singing, dancing, and acting.

 

ROCKWALL, Texas – May 31, 2018 – Rockwall Summer Musicals (RSM) is pleased to announce that its first children’s summer camp of the season will be The Wizard of Oz themed and will be held June 25-29, 2018. The weeklong camp will include classes on acting, dancing, and singing taught by talented Rockwall Summer Musicals staff at the Rockwall Performing Arts Center (1201 T L Townsend Drive, Rockwall, TX 75087). Students will attend workshops and perform scenes from the beloved musical The Wizard of Oz.

“We have seen time and time again that performance experience helps children in school,” says Rockwall Summer Musicals President Cecelia Rogers. “Our summer camp can build the child’s self-confidence, increase their attention span, give them the ability to focus, and improve public speaking skills through the art of acting.”

Two sessions are available: 9:00 am – Noon for ages 5-8 and 1:00 – 4:00 pm for ages 9-12. The cost of camp registration is $150, which includes the weeklong camp, a t-shirt, and a ticket to see a Rockwall Summer Musicals show this season. Profits from RSM’s summer camp will be used to start a scholarship fund for local high school students declaring a theater major in college. For the first time, guests may choose to purchase VIP tickets that include premiere seating and a complimentary appetizer for the table. Tickets are $80 for four tickets, making them the same price as general admission per ticket. Watson says, “We’ve found that more and more people are bringing groups of friends to the show and we want to encourage that with our new VIP ticket option!”

Garland, Texas – October 12, 2017 – Company of Rowlett Performers is proud to produce The Addams Family this October. With music by Andrew Lippa and a book by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, this snappy Halloween musical centers around Wednesday and her “normal” boyfriend as they attempt to seek approval from The Addams Family.

The Addams Family will be performed on October 13, 14, 19, & 21 at 8:00 pm
and October 14, 15, & 22 at 2:00 pm at The Plaza Theatre (521 W. State St Garland, TX 75040). Tickets are now available at www.garlandartsboxoffice.com and are priced at $18 for all ages.

Company of Rowlett Performers is celebrating its seventeenth season and is delighted to produce The Addams Family for a fun Halloween date night. Column Award Winner Aaron Lett (Gomez Addams) will be joined by Megan Liles (Morticia Addams) and Coestte Lehmann (Wednesday Addams), as well as a strong ensemble cast and production team.
