Dallas, Texas – February 28, 2017 – Artists for Animals today announces Mary Alice Rich as the winner of its 2017 call for scores with Southern Methodist University (SMU) Meadows School of the Arts/SYZYGY Contemporary Music Ensemble. Rich’s composition People Come, People Go for soprano, violin, and piano is a new piece of art based on the theme of “animal welfare and the general care and valuation of animals.”

Applications from across the country were submitted under pseudonyms and reviewed by a board. A prize of $1,000 will be rewarded to Rich jointly by Artists for Animals and Meadows School of the Arts (SYZYGY). People Come, People Go will premiere at the Artists for Animals Concert for Kindness on Sunday, March 12, 2017 with a spoken intro by Rich herself. “I am flat out grateful,” states Rich. “Many thanks to Artists for Animals, Operation Kindness, and SMU’s SYZYGY for this opportunity.”
